I have more than thirty years’ experience of working for financial institutions in the City of London and have been a school governor since 2002. During my time, I have been a governor at primary and secondary schools, both in Bexley and at other schools across the South East of England, having worked for a Multi Academy Trust. I first became a governor at the school my daughters attended, as I wanted to use my financial experience to help with budgeting for the school year. I joined the Proprietorial Body, in December 2023 as Chair and am working with the senior leaders to ensure that our children are provided with the very best experience to prepare them for their future lives. Since 2014, I have used my experience to work with other schools, providing support to new Chairs or to governing bodies that have undergone significant change.

I am the parent of an adult on the Autism spectrum, and I have been a governor at SAFE since 2021. Prior to that I have been a member of Greenwich Branch National Autistic Society since 2000. I am keen to support SAFE in the role of Governor as I believe they are providing a very important educational service for young people who have struggled at mainstream school.

As the parent of a previous student of SAFE I am delighted to take on the role of governor and offer my support to this vital provision for student who struggle in mainstream education. I have taken an academic interest in autism and will shortly be entering the final year of an MA in autism studies. I volunteer for CASPA which is a Bromley-based organisation providing support and opportunities for autistic/neurodivergent children and adults. I also offer 1:1 support for parents/carers who have autistic children. I have a background in nursing and in more recent years qualified as a counsellor.
What does the Proprietorial Body do?
SAFE’s Proprietorial Body is responsible for overseeing the management of the school. They meet monthly, and scrutinise everything from staffing, curriculum and attendance, to safeguarding, health and safety and finance.
Individual members of the proprietorial body visit SAFE during the school day regularly, to ensure they know how the school functions on a day to day basis, and to get the views of individual students and staff.
